Maria M. Rivera-Ortiz
At The Massachusetts Family Law Group, Attorney Rivera-Ortiz works on all aspects of domestic relations, from initial client interactions to assisting attorneys at trial. Maria knows (first hand) how temporary orders, settlements, and court judgments in your divorce will affect your life more than you can imagine. That's why it is imperative that you hire the right law firm - one that is highly skilled, experienced, and aggressive in divorce and family law matters. Under Maria Rivera-Ortiz's direction, she and Lucas have assembled the team you can count on for when you need to win and protect yourself and your children.
Maria Rivera-Ortiz is an advocate for divorce planning. Emphasizing the need for a solid exit plan, Maria harps on the fact that those who don't plan are the hardest hit. Pre-divorce planning is not only about taking your spouse for all you can. It's about making wise decisions with a clear mind. Maria helps clients intelligently strategize on alimony, child support, custody and parenting plans, property division, and college education funding issues.
A single mother herself, Attorney Rivera-Ortiz is a staunch advocate for Mother's Rights. If you are a working mother who has traditionally been the primary bread-winner, staying involved with your children is a top priority. If your spouse, the children's father, is a work-at-home father or has great flexibility in his schedule, the situation must be looked at carefully. When dad has been the primary caregiver and mom the "breadwinner" it is possible that mom’s primary custodian position may be in question.
If your spouse is a bully or controller, and you've tried everything possible to be civil about your feelings and intentions to divorce, you need Maria and our team at your side if your partner is being difficult. Beyond Maria, each one of us takes action to show that you won’t be intimidated, and that you are serious about moving forward.
In her role as Managing Attorney, she also heads the "Brain Trust" we offer clients insomuch as we provide a network of highly-qualified divorce specialists to provide you with answers to your everyday questions. Our go-to team includes Certified Public Accountants (CPA’s); pension, 401k, and retirement evaluators; psychiatrists and therapists; real estate appraisers and financial planner; business valuation experts; vocational experts who can address underemployment issues, and the list goes on.
Attorney Rivera-Ortiz received her undergraduate degree at Boston College, her Juris Doctorate at Suffolk University Law School, and is licensed to practice before the Massachusetts Bar, the United States District Court, and the Supreme Court. Prior to joining MFLG, Maria worked at the Worcester District Attorney’s Office and at Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts.
